The idea
Bring a small shopping bag and build a picnic from what catches your eye. The sandstone dock and working-harbour setting give this market outing its own character.
Start without a car
Take a ferry to Valentia Street Woolwich Wharf and check the connecting 538 bus or walking route to Woolwich Dock. Allow time for transfers.
Your route, at your pace
Check the organiser before leaving. The published recurring schedule is the second Sunday of each month, 9am–1pm, beside The Deckhouse at Woolwich Dock.
Browse French food and crafts, with free market entry. Compare individual stall prices and ask vendors about ingredients before buying picnic food.
Explore the public dock precinct and parklands. Keep to public paths around the working maritime site; Goat Paddock includes steep ground and stairs.
Getting home
Check your ferry and connecting bus before settling in for the picnic. On a non-market day, make this a dock-and-park outing instead.
What you pay for
Market entry is free; transport, food and purchases are extra. A monthly schedule is not a guarantee that a particular session will run.
Walking & access
Harbour Trust lists wheelchair access to the dock from Clarke Road. Nearby Goat Paddock has steep inclines and stairs.
If the weather turns
Recheck the market announcement. If conditions are poor, postpone the picnic rather than assuming stalls or shelter will be available.
A little discovery mission
Make a picnic from two small finds and photograph the sandstone dock. Ask before taking close-up photographs of stallholders.
