The idea

Look for the layers of gasworks, torpedo factory and submarine-base history while walking beside Neutral Bay. This is an industrial-harbour outing with room to pause.

Start without a car

Arrive at North Sydney Ferry Wharf and follow the public connection through Kesterton Park. North Sydney and Milsons Point stations are alternative starts, each under a kilometre from the site.

Your route, at your pace

  1. Start at Kesterton Park and use the waterfront boardwalk into the public precinct. Read the site interpretation to understand what the buildings once did.

  2. Explore the public waterfront and Torpedo Factory precinct. Respect tenant entrances and staff-only areas; ordinary public access does not include entering a submarine.

  3. Bring a picnic or choose your own nearby meal. Public toilets and waterfront seating make a relaxed pause possible without a restaurant booking.

Getting home

Return to North Sydney Wharf, or walk towards Milsons Point station. Check the route gradient before choosing a different return point.

What you pay for

A public-space visit plus transport and any food purchases. Booked activities, if chosen, have their own conditions.

Walking & access

Accessible approaches are listed from Kesterton Park and the High Street car park, with a ramp and lift serving the Torpedo Factory precinct.

If the weather turns

The waterfront is exposed. Keep the visit short in poor weather; public outdoor access does not promise an indoor attraction.

A little discovery mission

Frame old industrial details against the water. Try one wide harbour photograph and one close-up of public interpretation or building textures.
