The idea
This outing moves between two very different spaces: a narrow harbour-edge path and a restored church dining room. Treat them as two stops, with time between.
Start without a car
Use a bus or ferry to Rose Bay, then plan the local connection to Bayview Hill Road or Nielsen Park. Aambra is separately located at 518a Old South Head Road.
Your route, at your pace
Walk the Hermitage Foreshore track between Bayview Hill Road and Nielsen Park. The official track is 1.8km one way; approach walking is additional.
Pause at the public beach viewpoints, including Milk Beach, without cutting across private property. Return or arrange your onward transport at the other end.
For a separate meal, book Aambra and transfer to Old South Head Road. Its contemporary Levantine dining room occupies a restored heritage church; it is not a cafe directly on the track.
Getting home
Plan a bus or ferry return from the point where you actually finish. Do not assume the restaurant and walking-track endpoints share a stop.
What you pay for
Public walking plus transport. Dining is optional and separately paid; check the current menu and booking conditions.
Walking & access
The track is Grade 3 with uneven ground and steps. Check current park alerts; it is not a continuous step-free waterfront promenade.
If the weather turns
Choose the restaurant as a separate indoor outing if the coastal conditions are poor, with a confirmed reservation.
A little discovery mission
Look for a harbour photograph framed by trees, then compare it with the church’s architectural details from permitted public areas.
