The idea
The water crossing changes the rhythm of the day. Keep the walk modest enough to return comfortably, and make time to understand Jibbon’s Dharawal cultural significance.
Start without a car
Travel by train to Cronulla, then walk to the Cronulla–Bundeena ferry departure point. Check the operator’s service notice and timetable before leaving home.
Your route, at your pace
Cross to Bundeena on the local ferry. This service does not accept Opal; buy the operator’s ticket and confirm the return departure before starting your walk.
Walk on public streets towards Jibbon Beach. Choose a beach walk that matches your ability and check Royal National Park alerts for the intended route.
If continuing to the Aboriginal engravings, use designated paths and viewing areas. Respect the cultural site and turn back with enough time for your return ferry.
Getting home
Return to Bundeena Wharf for the confirmed ferry, then Cronulla station. Do not plan around the last possible connection.
What you pay for
Train fare plus a separate ferry fare, food and any optional guided activity. Check the current ferry fare directly with the operator.
Walking & access
This is not a step-free town stroll: beach sand, uneven ground and bush tracks may be involved. Match the route to your ability.
If the weather turns
Postpone if ferry conditions, strong wind or park alerts make the plan unsuitable. An operator cancellation is a reason to change the day.
A little discovery mission
Bring back one observation about the landscape and one thing learned from the public cultural interpretation. Stay on the designated viewing paths.
