A travel cap is a ceiling for eligible travel, not a package that includes every charge. Keep the airport station fee separate when you reserve money for the trip.
The adult limits we checked
The published adult Opal limits were A$19.30 Monday to Thursday, A$9.65 on Fridays, weekends and public holidays, and A$50 for a Monday-to-Sunday week. Use the same eligible card or device for the person's travel, and check the official rules for your fare type.
A week in the rules means Monday to Sunday, not any seven consecutive days from arrival. A visit spanning the week boundary needs more care than simply applying one weekly number.
A ceiling is different from a likely bill
For two adults, reserving the Friday/weekend daily ceiling for three days would mean A$9.65 × 2 × 3 = A$57.90 for eligible regular travel. Their actual spend may be lower. Putting that reserve in a budget does not mean the network will charge a flat daily ticket price.
For a light day with only one or two journeys, use the official route fare to estimate likely spend. For a flexible day with several possible trips, a cap can help set a conservative reserve. Our editable budget lets you choose which approach matches your plans.
Keep airport access outside that reserve
The airport station access fee is excluded from ordinary daily and weekly travel caps and has separate rules. Do not add an airport trip and assume the normal cap automatically absorbs the entire transfer.
If you enter a complete airport fare in the airport comparison, leave its includes-access box checked. If you enter only the train component, uncheck it to add the checked adult fee. This simple unit check prevents the same access fee appearing twice.
Give each traveller their own calculation
Do not apply one adult's cap to a whole family or assume that a concession is available to every visitor. Start with the traveller's actual entitlement and payment arrangement. This site's first airport comparison is for adult general fares; use official information for other fare types.
Use the trip budget to reserve regular transport and airport transfers as separate lines. Before travel, review the official fare page again, especially if the visit is after our stated check date.
